January 18, 2012 — What started as a heartwarming premise is now literally warming up the winter for those that need it, thanks to the success of the "Warm Hearts, Warm People" campaign, a coat drive and fundraising effort founded and led by DPS Penn and supported by businesses throughout the region.
DPS Penn, a privately held oil and gas company focused on the development of natural resources in Western PA and Eastern Ohio, collected coats throughout its entire coverage area, which includes Washington and Greene Counties in Pennsylvania and Belmont, Harrison, Jefferson and Columbiana Counties in Ohio. DPS Penn holds a coat drive each winter, but 2011's "Warm Hearts Warm People" campaign expanded the effort, using partnerships with local businesses/organizations and events to spread awareness and encourage donation.
A total of 1,363 coats were collected during "Warm Hearts, Warm People", which benefitted from the support of Cal U (PA), Greenesaver, Festival of Trees, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Steubenville Catholic Central, Franciscan University, Froggy Radio, Baker's Golden Dairy and the East Liverpool Tourism Bureau.
Donations were bolstered by public events with ties to the campaign, including a Froggy live broadcast, East Liverpool Light up Night, Festival of Trees, Cal U basketball games, Franciscan University DPS Penn Night.
In addition to the coat donations, DPS Penn also donated $4,000 to the Washington City Mission in Washington Count, PA and the Coat Closet in Belmont County, Ohio.
